Detailed description:
Adapted and shortened from Jiří Hovorka's introductory word about the author and the book.
As an active cave diver, Dan Hutňan took over the Prague Speleoaquanaut club within the Czech Speleological Society. He became a diving instructor and founder of the Orca diving school. He is not only dedicated to surface recreational divers, but also continues to conduct cave diving research in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. He also leads exploration expeditions abroad, mainly in Sardinia and Mexico.
Many years of exploration and training of new cave divers in many flooded caves, as well as contacts and cooperation with prominent world cave divers, meant that Dan gained experience and current knowledge in the development of methodology and technique, which he will now share with readers in this extensive publication. He is no stranger to publishing; in addition to professional reports in proceedings and popularizing lectures, he is the author of the monograph "The Journey Through the Valley", which discusses the successes of cave divers in Sardinia, and co-author of the book "The Quest for the Secrets of Xibalba", which deals with the discoveries and mapping of caves in Yucatán.
His exploration, training and popularization activities have been awarded many times at Speleophóra and other festivals dealing with water and caves.
It is necessary to emphasize that the book is a supporting source of information for a solid course and that the path from an occasional visitor to flooded spaces to an explorer is long and arduous. The publication is very beneficial in that it deals with the current state of developing methodology and equipment and, above all, the current state of marking and orientation in flooded caves in the world, i.e. ensuring a safe return.
